Many men assume that skin care is only important when they have a specific problem, such as acne, redness, wrinkles, or other common skin problems. While certain men's skin care items can help with specific problems, a daily skin care routine can help prevent problems from happening in the first place.
Your skin is your largest organ, and it, like every other part of your body, needs regular care to remain healthy. Nothing beats unwinding after a long day and pampering my skin as a skin care enthusiast. Since our skin cells regenerate in the evening, this is the best time to work on it.
It all starts with understanding your skin type so you can use the right kind of products, especially for those who have sensitive skin. The majority of men are unaware of their skin type. Many guys aren't even aware that skin has "types". Here is how you identify your skin type from the most common types-
Normal: The skin is oil-free for the majority of the day and does not easily get irritated or dry. Acne is a rare occurrence.
Oily: The skin has oily patches and a natural shine to it. Acne or buildup is a common occurrence for you.
Dry/Sensitive: The skin is easily irritated and feels tight or dry all over. Sometimes skin breaks out in rashes when you use a new product [soap/cream].
Combination: Imagine your face is shaped like a letter "T." The vertical bar extends down to the tip of your nose, while the horizontal bar runs across your forehead. This is referred to as the T-zone. Combination skin is characterised by an oily T-zone and dry/sensitive skin on the rest of the face (primarily the cheeks).
Ageing- Skin looks wrinkled, and has marks or age spots. It could also be due to long term neglect or lack of any kind of skincare.
A nighttime skin-care routine we recommend has three steps and looks like this:
- Cleanse,
- Hydrate and
- Treat
Although it is advisable to follow a fixed skincare routine on a regular basis, you can mix up the items on and off, depending on how you feel on that day. It helps to keep the routine light and not complicated.
Cleanse your Face:
Clean your face before going to bed. This is to remove any oil and pore-clogging bacteria. Wash your face or splash warm water on your face before applying face wash or soap. The warm water helps to open up the pores and eliminate any impurities. Gently rub the face wash in circles, and finally rinse using cold water which will help seal the pores before drying off using a soft towel. The only advice we would recommend is never use bar soap on your face. You can use a face scrub if you feel there is too much grime or your skin is too oily.
Hydrate the skin:
Applying a moisturiser to your skin is all it takes to hydrate your face.Moisturizing has a range of advantages, including keeping the skin firm, reducing water loss, and serving as an anti-aging agent. It provides the skin cells with the necessary vital nutrients, helping to preserve their fullness and maintain a healthy appearance. You can also use a toner to hydrate your skin. Pour some in the palm of your hand and apply it all over the face, make sure to get some behind the ears and neck region as well.
Treat:
If you have acne, aging related issues or any other skin condition, then make sure to use a serum or the prescribed medication on the specific areas before going to bed. It will help treat the condition and you will see your skin looking healthy in the morning. In case you experience any kind of itching or rash or other unusual breakouts, visit a dermatologist and stop using that particular product right away. Listen to your skin.
While these are steps we recommend, skin care is quite personal. So, see what routine works for you and take it from there. Do what you enjoy and what your skin loves.
