Ah, the morning routine. The task of dragging yourself from the bed into the bathroom and following a ritual of sorts at a set time every day. Walk in feeling haggard, looking like a caveman, find your way around the space, and within minutes emerge fresh and ready to face the world. That is what a morning grooming routine can do for you.
Here is how you can get started, with five simple steps, and in under 15 minutes.
The first thing you have to do before getting started is to have a tall glass of water. Do not reach for that cup of coffee yet, instead make a beeline to the tap. Not only will the water wake you up, it also does wonders for your skin and body.
1. Brush, Floss and Rinse -
Nobody likes bad breath, so start by brushing your teeth, cleaning out those gums and giving your mouth a good rinse. Use a good toothpaste and the right kind of brush, which will take care of staining, plaque, gum disease and help prevent cavities. You could also use a tongue scraper or a regular spoon to rid of any residue bacteria. This will also ensure you get through the day without reaching for the mouthwash.
2. Time to Shower [Body & Hair] -
Use a good body wash to scrub yourself down, cleaning those nooks and crannies as well. Check the product for any artificial fragrances and it is gentle on your skin. It would be gentle and cut through body odour.
Wash your hair every alternate day, show your scalp some love. Washing your hair daily will strip it of all natural oils, leaving it dry and itchy. Similarly, use a good conditioner after you shampoo. Rinse well, and let your hair dry as naturally as possible.
3. Managing facial fuzz -
Whether you sport a moustache or a beard, establish a routine that works for you. If you shave daily, do it in or right after a shower when the pores are open. This will prevent your skin going dry, or feeling like you ran a blade on it without any soap. Good to use a lather brush with shaving cream or gel. Remember to shave in the direction that your hair grows in, and don't do it in a hurry. Apply a serum or a moisturising after shave lotion to protect your skin.
4. Caring for the face -
Wait, doesn't it get covered under washing and shower? No, it does not. You need to use a face wash every morning to refresh your skin and get rid of oil and dirt. Would help if you were to use a face scrub twice a week, just to remove any dead skin. You will see a visible difference in your skin after a scrub.
5. Put your best foot forward -
Even if this is the last thing you do, make sure to include it as part of your routine.Good foot care is as essential as skin care. During the bath/shower use a pumice stone to clean out any dead skin, before pampering your feet with a good soak. It is always good to moisturize your feet, helps them breathe. When at home or in a casual setting wear light footwear, allowing your feet to breathe free.
Last up, before stepping out the door, spritz some of your favourite perfume on and you are good to go conquer the world.
